Lenzie Jubilee Gala 2012 welcomes back first Queen Heather
It will not be long until the Lenzie Gala 2012 and if you're going, the chances are you will be taking lots of snaps, and maybe even your own video footage.
Lenzie's Jubilee Gala will be on Saturday, June 2, with Ellie Cook from Lenzie Primary as Queen. And with a surprise guest due to crown Queen Ellie, this year's event is set to be extra special.
Liz Ibbotson, Gala convenor, told s1lenzie: "Through word of mouth we managed to find the very first Lenzie Gala Queen. Her name is Heather Findlay and she was Gala Queen in 1979. Back then she was Heather Ross and she went to Lenzie Primary. We found out that she still lives in Lenzie and works in Standard Life."
This year's programme looks jam-packed. As usual, we will see the return of the bouncy castle, the fairground rides and of course, the Gala Queen's Parade, which will leave Lenzie Station car park at 12.30pm.
Liz said: "There's quite a lot going on for such a small gala. Because we're a small gala we like to encourage small, local businesses and local charities to get involved. We've got a number of local businesses and charities who will be there with stalls. And of course the church, the scouts and the Boys Brigade will be there too.
"In terms of entertainment we've got the Mobile Adventurer, which is a wee obstacle course, and we've got the Irish dancers, who are fantastic and have wonderful costumes. Barulho Beat, a group of women drummers are playing. They'll be playing some samba, so it's something a bit different.
"We've also got the Cycle Co-op, who will be doing a workshop on bicycle safety and bicycle maintenance.
"And of course we've got the Gala Queen's Parade down to the rugby club. In that we've got the Gala Queen's car and all her subjects. We're hoping to have some vintage cars and motorcycles there as well."
The Lenzie Gala 2012 Royal Party is as follows:
- Gala Queen - Ellie Cook (Lenzie Primary)
- Pageboy - Louis Douglas (Lenzie Primary)
- Maids of Honour - Kirstin Mitchell (Lenzie Moss Primary), Eva Curran (Holy Family Primary), Kiela Trotter (Millersneuk Primary)
All girls are P7 and Louis is P1.
